DETROIT (HAP CARESOURCE) - Cass Community Social Services, a Detroit-based agency with a person-centered philosophy dedicated to providing food, housing, health/mental health services and jobs programs in areas of concentrated poverty, announces a donation from HAP Ë¿¹Ï¶ÌÊÓƵ, a joint venture between HAP, a Michigan-based nonprofit health plan and Ë¿¹Ï¶ÌÊÓƵ, a nationally recognized managed care organization. HAP Ë¿¹Ï¶ÌÊÓƵ provided a $25,000 donation to support the implementation of a food box program and purchase washers and dryers for the Fox Family Center, as well as providing school supplies for 50 young people.

"HAP Ë¿¹Ï¶ÌÊÓƵ has been an essential partner to Cass Community Social Services,” said Reverend Faith Fowler, Executive Director at Cass Community Social Services. “Their employees volunteer every month, preparing and serving hot meals. They came in last fall with boxes jammed full of school supplies to distribute to the students who stay in one of the emergency shelter programs. They even purchased new washers and dryers for the Fox Family Center so that more machines are available for families experiencing homelessness. What would we do without them? I don't want to know."

Cass Community Social Services prepares and serves 700,000 meals a year to those experiencing homelessness and living in poverty. The HAP Ë¿¹Ï¶ÌÊÓƵ donation helps Cass Community Social Services Food Box Program supply food pantry supplies and grocery-style items such as canned food, fresh produce from local community gardens and food rescuers, and dry goods at various locations around Detroit. Cass Community Social Services provides help in areas of concentrated poverty, providing programs for food, health, housing and jobs for both adults and children in need.

The Cass Community-led Fox Family Center serves as a resource for individuals experiencing homelessness with bedrooms, a cafeteria, a chapel and now a laundry room for up to 75 people. The extra donation of washers and dryers on every floor will also help individuals with limited mobility wash their clothes easily.

“HAP Ë¿¹Ï¶ÌÊÓƵ is thrilled to partner with Cass Community Social Services to provide healthy, balanced meals and vital access to washers and dryers to in-need members of the Detroit community,” said Sarah Musser, vice president of operations, Michigan market at HAP Ë¿¹Ï¶ÌÊÓƵ. “Working alongside the Cass Community team to provide food and resources to individuals experiencing homelessness and developmental disabilities is an honor.”

HAP Ë¿¹Ï¶ÌÊÓƵ and Cass Community Social Services have worked together for several years on an ongoing monthly meal preparation volunteer program, serving meals to area residents across the City of Detroit.
